7 February 2019. Rome. Meeting ot the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is hosting the Platform’s Secretariat starting January 1st, 2020. With this, IFAD takes over the hosting baton from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), which coordinated the Secretariat on commission of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for the past sixteen years. Both IFAD and BMZ are founding members of the Global Donor Platform and, together with the other 14 Board members, drivers of the strategic development of the Platform.

Since its founding in 2003, the Platform has effectively shared knowledge and successfully advocated for the role of agriculture, food systems, and rural development in promoting sustainable rural communities, which are key to achieving global food and nutrition security. For over one and a half decades, the Platform’s work has demonstrated that informed policy and programming are essential factors for better development results and effectiveness of investments.

“Members work together to influence ideas and resources for sustainable agriculture and food systems transformation“– this goal will continue to guide the Platform in the future” David Hegwood of the U.S. Agency for International Development, one of the Platform Board’s Co-Chairs,

During the transfer of the Secretariat’s services, GIZ as the former host and IFAD as new host closely coordinated to ensure that all services regarding the Platform’s operations and the support to the Platform’s individual Thematic Working Groups will continue.
