7-10 March 2017. Dar es Salaam. The Annual SAGCOT Partnership Forum is the flagship event of the SAGCOT initiative, which is co-hosted by the SAGCOT Centre Ltd and the SAGCOT Catalytic Trust Fund.

The Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) is an inclusive, multi-stakeholder partnership to rapidly develop the region’s agricultural potential. SAGCOT was initiated at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Africa summit 2010 with the support of founding partners including farmers, agri-business, the Government of Tanzania and companies from across the private sector.

SAGCOT’s objective is to foster inclusive, commercially successful agribusinesses that will benefit the region’s small-scale farmers, and in so doing, improve food security, reduce rural poverty and ensure environmental sustainability. The risk-sharing model of a public-private partnership (PPP) approach has been demonstrated to be successful in achieving these goals and SAGCOT marks the first PPP of such a scale in Tanzania’s agricultural history.
On the 7th and 8th of March participants had an opportunity to visit the value chain activities of our partners in the Tomato, Potato, Tea, Soya and Dairy sector in the Ihemi cluster as well as the Rice Value Chain activities in Mbarali.

10 March 2017. During the main forum, participants listen to keynote presentations from SAGCOT
Partners (both public and private) and participate in the group discussions in different thematic areas.

The key subthemes in the main forum included:

Enhancing Agriculture Financing, Insurance and ICT for improved agricultural productivity:
NOSC/Woods Foundation and ASAS Dairy on the use of ICT in ensuring maximum output from the value chains
Securing maximum output from the partnerships (value chains) in the Ihemi Cluster (comprising of Iringa and Njombe regions) and Mbarali Cluster (comprising Mbeya and Songwe regions): LGA Representative on Cluster Development Framework and the Compact story
Increasing the engagement and participation of smallholder farmers for optimal skills transfer: KPL on their Sustainable Rice Initiative (SRI) and how Smallholder farmers are engaged and farming skills sharpened.
