27 May 2017. Nairobi. The Agribusiness Innovation and Trade Fair was be the climax of the “Young Innovators in Agribusiness Competition.”

The Top 30 Startups and SMEs showcased viable businesses that can attract direct investments and pitch their ideas to a carefully selected audience. The Agribusiness Innovation and Trade Fair featured Pitch for Funds or Partner Session (Dragons Den); Poster Sessions (Bus Station Pitching); financial services and Product Sourcing Stations; discussions with potential mentors and grant giving organizations.

The youth specialize in processing, finance, software and apps development, agro-mechanization, packaging and export services. The top 30 entrepreneurs showcased their business and pitch to potential investors and stakeholders. The climax of the AITF was the recognition of the top Six finalists and one best female entrepreneur who will be awarded with seed capital amounting to USD 20 000.

Noah Ssempijja from Uganda was the overall winner. Other winners are Mercy Kitomari from Tanzania, Ethiopia’s Abrhame Endrias of Green Agro Mechanisation, and Anzazi Kiti (Taste Afrique) from Kenya.

The contest was sponsored by USAID-supported East Africa Trade and Investment Hub, Syngenta, Inter Region Economic Network, and Toyota Kenya Academy.
