Agrinatura’s representing team of Pieter Windmeijer (WUR) and Agrinatura President, Carolyn Glynn, from SLU (Sweden) wished a Happy 30th Birthday to the home organization ICA, the Association for European Life Science Universities in Wageningen. The birthday coincided with the 100th anniversary of Wageningen University and Research (WUR), the host of the ICA General Assembly and Forum from 24 – 26 October, 2018. As a Standing Committee of ICA, Agrinatura reports yearly to the ICA Council on the new developments of our organization.

This year Agrinatura participated in the ICA Council meeting before the General Assembly in order to discuss the possibility to have agriculture for global development as a theme for the next ICA Forum in October 2019. There was a unanimous agreement to the theme and Agrinatura represenattives promised Simon Heath, General Secretary for ICA, that Agrinatura would serve as a ball plank for planning the Forum 2019. This is an outstanding opportunity for the ICA Forum participants, the Rectors and Deans of the European Life Science Universities, to see the relevance and importance of the work done at their organizations within the realm of agriculture for global development. As always, the ICA Forum is geared to provide decision makers with knowledge on issues that can be useful for their universities in responding to their mission in education, research and management.

Agrinatura was highly visible at the meeting through the banner, our 30 year review pamphlet, and not least, information from the Agrinatura-EEIG and Agrinatura Association projects. In fact, we received requests for membership information from three new universities!

This year the theme for the ICA Forum was ‘High Tech to Feed the World Sustainably: Innovation from Spade to Fork’.  Focus was on the advantages and the challenges that accompany the ever-increasing technological applications that accompany the sustainable management of agricultural production and in the management of the entire food value chain.
