The feedback received has shown that the CFS 40 Plenary Session met its objectives. Policy recommendations were endorsed on “Investing in Smallholder Agriculture for Food Security and Nutrition” and “Biofuels and Food Security”.

Principles of responsible agricultural investments (CFS-RAI)
A series of regional multi-stakeholder consultations are now underway to discuss the Zero Draft of CFS-RAI. There will also be an econsultation from 13th January to 7th February. Draft One will be discussed at the end of April. There will be a final Open Ended Working Group meeting in FAO, Rome and from 19th – 23rd May. The resulting draft will be submitted to CFS 41 for endorsement. Addressing Food Insecurity In Protracted Crises
The Zero Draft of the Agenda for Action for addressing food insecurity in protracted crises is currently being prepared for circulation in mid-February 2014 and will be discussed at an Open Ended Working Group meeting in FAO, Rome from 6th – 7th March 2014. The document will include case studies to help illustrate how the principles can be transformed into actions. A final consultation to negotiate Draft One is proposed for 8 – 11 July, 2014 and a Global Consultation will be held on 22nd – 23rd April, 2014. The resulting draft will be submitted to CFS 41 for endorsement. Find out more:

About CFS 41
CFS 41 will be held in FAO Rome from 13th – 18th October 2014. As background documents for the two Policy Round Tables, the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutritionare producing two reports:
  • The role of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture for food security and nutrition
  • Food losses and waste in the context of sustainable food systems
