Comittee on World Food Security (CFS) 41st session “Making a difference in food security and nutrition” took place at FAO premises, Rome – Italy, between the 13th and the 18th of October 2014.

 

CFS is made up of Members, Participants and Observers. Last year AGRINATURA was included to the official list of CFS observers and this year was represented by the Business Manager Nelida Alé.
The main points of this year Session have were:
State of Food Insecurity in the World 2014:
State of Food Insecurity in the World (SOFI) 2014 report  presented a number of indicators for measuring hunger and food insecurity and country case studies focussed on food security governance.
Policy convergence:
In line with the CFS role to promote policy convergence, this item seeks to provide guidance around key food security and nutrition issues.
Policy round tables:
The objective of this item has been to promote open and substantive debate so as to contribute to concrete policy recommendations for consideration by the Committee. Two policy round tables has been held on the following topics:
i) Food losses and waste in the context of sustainable food systems
ii) The role of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture for food security and nutrition
For each round table, background documents include a report of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) and a proposed Decision Box.
Principles for Responsible Agricultural Investments
The Committee has been asked to endorse the “Principles for Responsible Agricultural Investments” (CFS-RAI), which reflect the outcome of an inclusive consultative process both at the global and regional levels following a decision by CFS 39 in 2012.
Agenda for Action for Addressing Food Insecurity in Protracted Crises
The Committee has been asked to adopt a decision box on the “Agenda for Action for Addressing Food Insecurity in Protracted Crises” (CFS-A4A), which indicates the way forward for the negotiations and expresses the support of the CFS to the continuation and finalization of the process.
