Eduardo Fuentes defended his PhD thesis on November 27 in Montpellier. This is the first Agtrain student to be graduated. Agtrain is the European PhD programme jointly organised by a consortium of AGRINATURA members.

The topic of the PhD thesis was: “Exploring alternatives for milk quality improvement and more efficient dairy production in a smallholder farming context – Case study: Mantaro Valley (Peru)”. The research leads to the identification and test of systems recognising quality in the milk supply chains of the valley, especially for small and unorganised farmers.

The Jury included representatives from the two co-supervision institutions, Montpellier SupAgro (Dr P-Y Le Gal) and UC Cork (Dr S. Onakuse), and from the partner university in Peru, University la Molina (Dr Carlos Gomez). The President of the Jury, Charles-Henri Moulin, warmly congratulated the candidate for the original combination of sciences involved in his work and also for the concrete contribution to exploring innovation pathways that can improve the livelihood of the farmers of the Montaro Valley in Peru, where the research took place.

AGRINATURA is proud to congratulate Eduardo, who is now doctor of both UC Cork in Ireland and Montpellier SupAgro in France.
