‘Best Practices of Alumni Centres’

The workshop ‘Best Practices of Alumni Centres’ as a part of SIMPLE project was hosted by Ghent University in Ghent, Belgium. during 3 days at historical building of Het Pand, which is an old Dominican monastery located in the heart of the city on the banks of the river Leie, near the medieval port with the guildhalls as its remnants.

The SIMPLE project aims to encourage the cooperation of academic sector (HEIs) with professional sector in the area of agriculture and life sciences leading to an enhanced employability of the universities’ alumni.

All participants were discussing the best practices of alumni centers with practical examples from the represented countries from Europe and Asia. The participants from Europe were: Ghent University (Belgium), Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (Czech Republic), AGRINATURA (Czech Republic)), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria), University of Groningen (the Netherlands) and Asian partners: Royal University of Agriculture (Cambodia, University of Battambang (Cambodia), Prince of Songkla University (Thailand), Kasetsart University (Thailand), and Bogor Agricultural University (Indonesia), Tadulako University (Indonesia). After the brief desktop study presentation of all present participants the workshop was followed by presentation from Yashraj Jain from CASE (Council for Advancement in Support of Education) with topic: ‘Alumni Relations metrics, the development of the project and results from the pilot’ and complemented with an example of ‘Best Practices of career offices’ from University of Navarra (Spain) by María Goni Vidal.

In the second day of the workshops European and Asian participants visited EU DG International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO – EU – ROPEAID) followed by visit at DG Agriculture and Rural Development in Brussels. The EC visit was complemented by presentation from a lobbing company COPA-COGECA which follows 3 main ideas to enable representatives of the European Union from the various agricultural production sectors and areas to discuss matters concerning their respective sector or area and to suggest solutions to the problems posed, to coordinate work in the overall context of agriculture, agricultural policy and policy in general, and ultimately to represent all sectors and areas together.

In the end of the day all participants were invited to visit local Belgian cattle farm ‘Farm Den Ighemkouter‘ which is managed by a single widow and her two children, 26 old daughter and a son.
