Context:

Sorghum production development is targeted by the Government of Ghana because of its contribution in terms of value added and for processing opportunities that are drawing the attention of investors, particularly in the northern areas of the country. A VCA study has been requested by the EU and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to improve the understanding of the functioning of the VC and to provide a baseline against which to measure future changes in the sorghum production.

In this context, since 2017 the EU has been supporting the MOAP-  Market Oriented Agriculture Programme with a co-funding of 20 MEUR and with a duration of 7 years. The programme, implemented by the MoFA and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, aims at creating new jobs, increase productivity, enhance product quality and preserve the environment in the agricultural sector, targeting mainly small-holder farmers. The MOAP provides more specifically policy advice to decision-makers and trains agricultural advisors to improve the competitiveness of the value chains (VC) for groundnuts, soybeans, mango, pineapple, citrus fruits, cashew, vegetables, rice and sorghum. Interventions in the sorghum VC target in particular the Northern areas of the country.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in contact!
