4th RUFORUM Biennial Conference

AGRINATURA representatives participated on RUFORUM conference, taking place July 19 – 25, in Maputo – Mozambique.

During the conference two sessions were hosted by AGRINATURA. First one with themeStrengthening partnership in research and higher education was convened together with Makerere University, CTA and RUFORUM and the main aim of the session was to share lessons learnt from different partnership projects and programmes in Africa and other parts of the world. Furthermore the event explored collaboration opportunities that could be exploited in the coming years. The other session devoted to Resilience and sustainable intensificationwas chaired by Vice-president of AGRINATURA Didier Pillot. President of AGRINATURA Michael Hauser gave closing remarks during the last day session summarizing and reflecting sessions and side events of the conference.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

RUFORUM – The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture is an African network of member universities, run by Africans with African priorities, but fully integrated into the extensive international science and policy agenda.

Once every two years, RUFORUM organizes an Africa-wide week-long conference with the aim of fostering networking among its member universities and to link universities to other sectors. The fourth RUFORUM Biennial conference theme was African Higher Education Week: Celebrating the contribution of African Universities and Partners to agricultural development in Africa.

This year´s conference particularly focused on the future of agriculture and Agricultural Tertiary Education in Africa and included the launching of RUFORUM Graduate Teaching Assistantship Programme, an initiative by Vice Chancellors to increase the pool of PhD trained scientists in Africa. The conference brought together around 500 delegates from across Africa and beyond, including development partners and senior African Policy makers.
