Agrinatura News

We are glad to share with you a new call for experts for a very interesting value chain analysis in Mali on fisheries and aquaculture.

The profiles are detailed below. Each expert will have 45 working days (50 for the team leader). The period for the study is May 2019 – March 2020 (one mission possibly in June 2019, the second in January 2020 – in accordance with the seasonality of activities).

The ToR will be circulated as soon as approved – but this is expected to be a standard study, undertaken by using the VCA4D methodology, as described in the ‘Methodological Brief. Tools and Methods’. https://europa.eu/capacity4dev/value-chain-analysis-for-development-vca4d-/documents/methodological-brief-v12

Please send the CVs of candidates to olimpia.orlandoni@agrinatura-eu.eu and to sara.jones@agrinatura-eu.eu, by Monday 22 April, COB.

Context:

Mali is endowed with a high inland and sea fish potential. Fishing activities are concentrated in the central delta of the Niger River (80% of fishing national production), and the Selingué and Manantali Lake.

Fundamental for the food security and nutrition of households in the regions where fishing is the main activity, it is also important for the broader economy (job creation, commercial activities, etc.) while facing several challenges.

The EU is supporting the Government of Mali on fisheries through the PAFHa – ‘Projet d’Appui à la Filière Halieutique’, implemented by the Belgian cooperation agency – ENABEL. This 8 million Euros project, running until 2021, is developed around three axis: a) improvement of conservation, commercialisation and valorisation of fish products; b) improvement of the productivity of the fisheries value chain via sustainable practices, c) and reinforcement of the government’s technical services and producers organisations capacities.

Support to fisheries is expected to continue in the next programming phase of the EU (2021-2027) and the VCA4D study will serve as a baseline analysis for better defining, together with the Government of Mali, the priorities for the fisheries value chain.
