INVITATION: Agrinatura and FARA, COLEACP Side-Event THE ROLE OF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ON FOOD SYSTEMS TRANSFORMATION

Background:

Agrinatura has a demonstrated record in developing partnerships between actors of the global north and south in the field of agricultural research. The experience in creating global networks of cooperation and knowledge exchange places Agrinatura in a good position to contribute to the global science-policy dialogue in the field of agricultural research for development. With this objective in mind, Agrinatura members and partners are well aware of the importance of the Food Systems Summit and would like to contribute to the global dialogues being held under this framework from the perspective of agricultural research and education.

Aim:

This Dialogue aims to call the attention on the role of agricultural research in the transformation of food systems everywhere in the globe. Furthermore, Agrinatura has a longstanding cooperation with the European Commission and other key agricultural research stakeholders in implementing key cooperative projects in the global south. The development of partnerships and networks of agricultural research between the global south and north are at the center of the food systems transformation.

Understanding that knowledge is the key lever of food systems transformations this Dialogue will call the attention to address it at the center of the Summit. To enable the needed transformation our societies need agricultural science, research, education, innovation done from an open, inclusive, and participatory perspective. Agrinatura proposes to bridge science and policy, focusing not only on solutions but also formulating the right questions to achieve transition pathways for sustainable food systems.
